Our Lady Queen of Peace...... The Creative Doves.....

I have been so busy of late that I have struggled to put up posts about some of the things that have been happening. Tonight is a catch up post.

Recently I visited Our Lady Queen of Peace School in Gladesville to take delivery of some laundry bags made by some of the Year 6 children (girls and a boy!) there, a group called "The Creative Doves".

Julie, who organised the group wrote this....

"The Creative Doves developed out of an interest some of the girls had in sewing Quilts of Love for premi and stillborn babies at Westmead Childrens Hospital in 2016.They made about 10 baby quilts, which was their first attempt at sewing and using a machine.

They became very committed to their sewing and decided this year to find another worthy cause to help.  I had heard about Aussie Heroes and showed them some photos of what you were doing and that was that, hence your laundry bags.

The group gave up recess and lunch once a week during Term 2 to complete the bags.

They then wanted to make individual cards for each bag and

they put together the treats, notebooks and toiletries.

I showed the group the list on your blog and asked them to pick out some different items that they thought would be handy, they each made a donation and I shopped for them, the school also donated some items. The kids were insistent that the sweets were typically Australian

This group of young people are very committed to following St.Mary McKillop's creed of...."Never see a need without doing something".

I am confident as the head to high school next year they will keep following this path.

I am very proud of them all."

Well we are proud of them all too.
Look at the beautiful letter they sent me.

Dear Mrs Jan-Maree Ball,
On behalf of my school, Our Lady Queen of Peace Gladesville, I would like to thank you for all the work you have done for our Australian heroes and for our country since helping our soldiers means helping our country.  Our sewing group, the Creative Doves, feels privileged to be able to help with such a good cause and are excited for soldiers to receive our laundry bags and put them to use.   We send you our best wishes for the future of Aussie Hero Quilts.

What a wonderful contribution and what a great future these young people have ahead of them if they continue on this path.

A big BZ (navy speak for Well Done) to all of them and to Our Lady Queen of Peace for fostering such great community spirit and involvement.

Till next time... keep spreading the word and happy stitching!

Jan-Maree  xx
